Internet marketing services.
Internet marketing, search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), web marketing, on line marketing: those are all very similar terms that are used to describe promotion of a website.
Depending on the goals the business owner has, there are different ways to accomplish them. If it is imperative to get visitors on the promoted web site right away, pay per click may be a good choice (visit my pay per click services page to get an idea of advantages and disadvantages of using this type of marketing). If getting the highest return on the investment is the goal, marketing a web site in organic search results could work out best. Since marketing a website "organically" represents the most challenge for the business owners, this is the topic that is discussed on my homepage.
Marketing of a website in organic results consist of two parts.
First, making changes on the website that will allow search engines rank it higher for the keywords that you trying to be found. First part includes correcting mistakes in the code, connecting the pages of the website in the best possible way, writing meta tags appealing both to search engines and humans, writing content that is useful in some way to the people, who are looking for your product or service, doing keyword research. First part of the internet marketing process will insure that before any money are spent on building links, the web site you are marketing is attractive to search engines, as well as people, and keywords that the website will be found for, have been identified.
Second, part is link building. Links, pointing on the website, that is being promoted will show search engines that this web site is of importance and other web site administrators and internet users leave the address of this website as a reference.
Let's look at the first part of the search engine marketing process.
1. Mistakes in HTML and CSS code.
The website may have nice layout and it looks pretty impressive for a human eye, but search engines do not understand the word "pretty" and if there are many mistakes in the code it could lower the rancking.
If a free template has been used, some kind of website builder, provided for free by the hosting service, a poor web designer worked on the website, there is a good chance the site has a lot of mistakes. Even for the most competitive keywords, there are plenty of websites that show up on the first page of Google, that have many mistakes in the code. HTML and CSS mistakes will not prevent a website from being popular, but the cost to promote a poorly designed web site will be higher.
2. Links structure.
If it difficult for the visitors to find some of the pages, because they are too deep within the web site, it is possible that search engines, have a hard time finding those pages as well. Connecting pages in the way that the website is easy to navigate, will improve ranking.
3. Correct meta tags.
Meta tags should reflect targeted keywords, and match the content on the page. (Page/file names fall in the same category.)
4 Code to content ratio.
Search engines do not like empty pages. If the website template has a lot of graphics (a lot of code), there should be a lot of content (500 words per page, is considered to be average).
It is possible to get high ranking with little or no content, but a little harder to achieve.
5 Keyword research.
Keyword research is more vital than anything else. There can be nothing worse than to spend 6 months of efforts and money marketing a web site, and later find out that the internet marketing expert promoting it, was trying to rank for the wrong keywords.
For example:.
If it is a dentist with a practice in the city of Los Angeles, the highest search volume for this type of business would be "dentist los angeles". About 1600 people a month looking for this term. There are different types of dentists (Orthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral surgery ) and unless it is a website of a a general dentist, "dentist los angeles" may be by far, not the best keyword phrase to compete for. If a dental office specializes in dental implants, for example, a better choice would be "implant dentist los angeles" (only about 210 people searching for this keyword phrase) or "cosmetic dentist los angeles"(about 1000 searches a month).
The website may get less visitors, competing for the second two keyword phrases, but because the services are more relevant to what a person was looking for, the busines will get higher rate of conversion from a visitor to a customer. That is just one example of how the volume of visitors may not always reflect the amount of actual customers, that the business is going to get, if not the best keywords have been chosen.
The 5 main points above are about 10% of the search engine marketing campaign.
The rest 90% is getting inbound links (back links, or links pointing to your website).
There is no specific amount, type, or quality of links your need to get. Internet marketing is all competition based, and in order to rank high, you need to determine first, how strong your competitors websites are. For low volume keyword phrases you may get away with a few hundred to a thousand of average quality links, or you may need a whole bunch of high quality ones for competitive keywords.
If your goal is to be found in organic results,
this is the outline of the marketing campaign that I would suggest.
1. Fix mistakes on the website itself.
2. Do a keyword research, to find the most relevant keywords to your product/service.
3. Do a research on your competitors.
4. Start a link building campaign.
The results of a successful marketing can show in as little as a couple of months or as long as six months. It is again all competition based, and the speed of the results will depend on the industry, amount of money you are willing to spend, skills of an internet marketer that is going to promote a website, and the quality of your competitors' marketing campaign/consultants.

Tips on finding the best Internet marketing company.
Below are some tips on finding a good website marketing services firm that can possibly save you money.
Think very hard about using services of an Internet marketing company that you learned about, by getting an inbound sales call.
Every business owner who has his phone number next to his business listed anywhere on the Internet, at one point or another, has gotten a call from a company, offering their Internet marketing services. Regardless of the offer that is being made by the company, it would be a good idea to decline it. Chances are - it is just another telemarketer trying to sell something useless. Telemarketing and Internet marketing are two completely different things, and being able to make a cold call, does not make a person knowledgeable in marketing a business online. Internet marketers who are good at what they do, are capable of promoting their services on the web, and will not bother with cold calling business owners with unsolicited online marketing offers. If you want your business to be promoted on the web by someone who knows what he is doing, you will need to make an effort to find that person or company yourself.
Check if your Internet marketing services company has a website that ranks well.
While selecting an Internet marketing company, take the time to find out how their website comes up in organic search results. Many Internet marketing companies use sponsored results (pay per click) to advertise their services. Using pay per click for your supplementary keywords is a good strategy, as it sometimes may not be cost or time efficient try to rank for every single keyword you want in organic results. However, if the website of a marketing company a business owner is thinking of using, does not rank well for any competitive keywords at all, that may be a sign that the organic ranking of his site will also will be very poor, if he decides to hire this company.
The best price for marketing your website may not have the best value.
Internet marketing services pricing will vary with each company. It is well to keep in mind that to promote a business online will require both time and money. To promote a website can get very costly if the industry or keywords are competitive. Someone charging a low price will not only have a hard time making a profit, but also will not be able to spend enough money promoting your website. The saying: "The poor man pays twice" has proven itself many times. It is especially true when paying for online marketing services.
If you are looking for a professional Internet marketing company, do your research first, use common sense, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
